A full 7 years after the original Mojo DAC, Kent based company Chord Electronics have upgraded their already award winning platform with the introduction of the stunning Chord Mojo 2. This latest generation portable DAC and headphone amplifier features world first technology with the integration of a UHD DSP algorithm using an incredible 104 bits of DSP Core to provide unrivalled levels of precision across the entire frequency band. This is completely unique to Chord and enables “transparent” processing of the digital signal, in turn preserving the filtering of ultra small signals that get annihilated with other DSP circuits.
With technology having advanced considerably over the last 7 years, Chord were able to extend the Mojo 2’s feature set further with improvements across the board. The low energy chipset enables much greater battery life with around 8 hours playtime. Heat loss when charging is down an astronomical 75% providing more efficient charging and Mojo 2’s ‘Intelligent Desktop Mode’ technology has also been improved, with an isolated battery and PSU redesign to support battery-free operation without any loss in sound quality paired with improved filtering and isolation.
Mojo 2 is now DC-coupled with a digital DC servo. It benefits from an updated and imporved WTA (Watts Transient Aligned) filter, which offers an immense 40,960 taps using 40 DSP cores.
Additionally, an improved noise-shaper offers greater depth and detail perception, plus improvements to the DAC introduce lower distortion and out-of-band noise. Greater neutrality has also been achieved, thanks to the elimination of coupling capacitors.
With the advent of USB C being used more and more over the last few years, it was clear that the original Mojo was missing out. Mojo 2 steps into the fore and provides both USB Micro and USB C for data transfer, bringing it right up to date. The inclusion of the Micro USB means that it is fully backward compatible with the exceptional streaming Poly add-on.
