The Astell & Kern Kann Alpha is the latest generation of KANN portable audio players and could be seen as the successor to the original KANN.

The Kann Alpha will sit in the lineup alongside the KANN Cube and is the first Astell&Kern player to feature a Pentaconn 4.4mm output. Size wise Astell&Kern have made some dramatic improvements over the original KANN by slimming the player down quite considerably. Battery life has also been improved and you should now comfortably be able to achieve over 10 hours playback.

The Kann Alpha still features the same DAC as the OG Kann but improvements have been made on the audio board to enhance the sonic capability still further.

The KANN Alpha is a powerhouse of a DAP and is capable of driving both earphones and headphones to their optimum whilst remaining a portable device suitable for travel and being at home.

The newly introduced feature of the 4.4mm balanced output port is exciting, however, the most important part it was implemented.

Unlike other manufacturer’s products, KANN ALPHA has physically separated the 2.5mm and 4.4mm outputs using micro relays.

When 2.5mm and 4.4mm structures that are connected only to the mute circuit they do not prevent noise interference that may occur because each signal is not properly blocked.

KANN ALPHA boasts noise-free output because we built in an independent structure that completely blocks interference from outputs that are not being used and to be switched off therefore preventing the noise from occurring.
