The Astell & Kern SE200 is the world’s first DAP to use two types of DAC.
Astell&Kern have rebranded their recent range of players under the guise of A&ultima, A &norma and A&futura. The SE200 fits under the A&futura class of players and this is due to the advanced audio chip they are using inside the unit. This is the first time Astell&Kern or any brand have used the ESS chipset that offers industry leading specification and also AKM in order to obtain the best of both chips in the one player. The insane level of detail retrieval from both chips is truly incredible. The SE200 is super analytical and delivers even the faintest of details with little to no effort at all. Using two completely separate DAC and amplification boards means that you can plug your headphones into either the 2.5mm or 3.5mm ESS output or alternatively use the 2.5mm or 3.5mm output using the AKM chipset, completely changing the sound.
The built in 256GB storage enables you to store many of your favourite albums on board, with the ability to add an external 1TB sd card if required. The simplicity of the user interface means that you can access your music and begin listening to it within seconds.
If you find that the storage isn’t quite big enough, then you can access millions of songs on the TIDAL. This is a subscription service, however it enables you to access all of the latest albums releases along with a curated song list. Unfortunately the native, built in TIDAL application will not enable you to save offline music to the device.
If you don’t have TIDAL then you are able to load your favourite music app to the player such as Spotify™ and Amazon Music etc using the OpenApp Platform
The power from the headphone output on the SE200 is substantial and means that it will pair with a large number of earphones and headphones on the market.Taking cues from Astell & Kern’s SA700 player it uses multi coloured LED’s around the volume knob to display information including volume range, bit-rate of track currently being played and the current DAC being used for playback of music
