EA13

The FiiO EA13 is a full-size valve (tube) power amplifier for speakers, and it’s quite a statement from FiiO. Six valves, glowing mechanical VU meters and a modern unibody design make it as much a centrepiece as an amplifier. It’s taken FiiO three years to develop, and it picked up a VGP 2026 award.

Six valves, Class A push-pull

Two Sylvania NOS PCF80 valves handle the preamp stage, with four JJ Electronic EL34s doing the heavy lifting. They run in pentode mode, pure Class A push-pull, an approach FiiO draws from classic 1950s designs. The aim is the delicate, dense and natural sound people buy valve amplifiers for.

Enough power for real speakers

FiiO quotes 28W per channel into 8Ω or 4Ω, or 18W per channel at lower distortion. That’s enough for most bookshelf speakers and some floorstanders. As always with valves, speaker sensitivity matters, so tell me what you’re pairing it with and we can make sure it’s a sensible match.

Built around a serious transformer

The custom output transformer is filled with epoxy resin and fine sand, then sealed in its own enclosure to control vibration and shield interference. FiiO credits it with a blacker background, tighter bass and more refined treble.

Thoughtful details

Volume is handled by a stepped 40-position analogue control with matched resistors for consistent channel balance. There are four RCA inputs for a streamer, CD player, DAC or phono stage, 4Ω and 8Ω speaker terminals, a 12V trigger input and a 6.35mm headphone output. After 30 minutes without a signal it drops into standby, saving power and valve life.

A couple of honest practicalities. It weighs around 17.7kg, so it needs a sturdy home with room to breathe. And FiiO recommends disconnecting your speakers before using the headphone output.
