JT9

The FiiO JadeAudio JT9 is an open-back planar magnetic headphone that sets out to make planar sound easy to live with. It’s light, it folds, and it doesn’t need a big amplifier to sound its best. For a lot of people, that combination removes the main reasons they’ve held off on planars.

A large planar driver, tuned fuller

The JT9 uses a 95 × 86mm planar driver developed by FiiO’s own acoustic team. FiiO has lowered its resonant frequency for deeper bass and a fuller, warmer signature, and redesigned the ear cups to reduce that “in your head” feeling with vocals, opening up the presentation.

A 1μm diaphragm with a clever coating

The diaphragm is just one micron thick, so it responds quickly to fine detail. FiiO coats it with a patented sapphire and aluminium layer: the aluminium improves conductivity and makes the JT9 easier to drive, while the sapphire stiffens the diaphragm for clearer treble.

Easy to drive, easy to wear

With 95dB/mW sensitivity and 20Ω impedance, the JT9 works happily from a phone with a decent dongle DAC as well as a desktop system. At around 365g it’s lighter than most full-size planars, and the ear cups rotate and fold flat for storage.

Both cables in the box

You get a 22AWG oxygen-free copper cable with both 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced plugs, so it’s ready for whatever you plug it into.
